Mont Blanc is a famous dessert during the fall season. Originally from France, it has gained popularity in recent years in Japan, known as ‘Waguri Mont Blanc’ (和栗モンブラン, Japanese chestnut Mont Blanc) and ‘Namashibori Mont Blanc’ (生絞りモンブラン, freshly squeezed Mont Blanc), with various Japanese-style adaptations. Many Mont Blanc lovers are captivated by this sweet, and ‘Monkatsu’ (モン活, the activity of enjoying Mont Blanc) during the fall season has also become popular. This time, we’re going to introduce a super delicious Mont Blanc in Jiyugaoka, considered the highest level of Japanese sweets.

MONT BLANC in Jiyugaoka, with a long history, is known as the origin of Mont Blanc. Originally, Mont Blanc is a sweet that comes from France and was made in the image of a famous mountain in Europe. Chiomao Sakota (迫田千万億), the first owner, discovered this sweet in Europe and then received permission to open a store in Japan. After that, Sakota adapted it by using sweetened boiled Japanese chestnuts with a Japanese touch, creating the original version of the Mont Blanc we know today. The top part is made of crispy meringue, while the bottom is filled with marron cream, squeezed using a method specially made for Japanese sweets. The bottom layer is made of castella dough and custard cream, and it includes a whole candied chestnut, allowing you to enjoy the simple yet strong chestnut flavor. Experience the historic taste of Mont Blanc with a recipe that has been cherished and passed down since the company’s founding.

Popular Freshly Squeezed Mont Blanc, at Kuriho to Imoko

Kuriho to Imoko is a popular store, with its main branch located in Asakusa and several other branches across the nation. In Jiyugaoka, the store spans two floors, offering takeout options on the 1st floor and a cozy cafe space on the 2nd floor. During the fall season, which is renowned for its chestnuts, the store tends to get quite crowded. We recommend making a reservation through the official website for the best experience. At other Kuriho and Imoko shops, there may be a performance where the chestnut cream is squeezed right in front of your eyes, but at the Jiyugaoka, you can enjoy a ready-to-eat freshly squeezed Mont Blank. The feature is that you can relax and enjoy freshly made sweets in a relaxing cafe with a pure Japanese style. Especially popular is ‘Kiwami’ (極) which is limited to 10 meals a day and can be eaten only in the shop. This is the Japanese chestnut Mont Blanc that represents our store. Only Noto chestnuts from Ishikawa Prefecture are generously used for the Mont Blanc cream. After 45 days of ‘aging’, the sugar content is raised at once through the ‘baked’ process in a pressure cooker, achieving a sugar content of over 30% even without sugar. The Jiyugaoka shop also presents afternoon tea and original Mont Blanc complemented by seasonal fruits. If you’re a Mont Blanc enthusiast, this is a store you absolutely shouldn’t miss

A popular patisserie in Jiyugaoka, Mont St.Clair. The shop’s owner is a famous patissier, Hironubu Tsujiguchi (辻口博啓). It is also a popular patisserie that created an opportunity for Jiyugaoka to be recognized as a sweets town, and even today it is a popular shop that continues to be visited by people from all over the country looking for delicious cakes. There is a line every day, so we highly recommend arriving with plenty of time. Mont Blanc made with French chestnuts is available throughout the year, but in autumn, multiple types of Mont Blanc are available in stores, including Mont Blanc made with domestic chestnuts and Mont Blanc tarts. Among them, the Rihei Chestnut Mont Blanc stands out with its rich chestnut flavor, leaving a lasting impression. Along with the milky cream, you can also enjoy the sweetness of the chestnuts that melt in your mouth. Please enjoy the seasonal flavors.
