One of Tokyo’s Top 3 Dorayaki – The Must-Try Dorayaki from the Traditional Confectionery, Kameju
Kameju (亀十) is a well-known sweet shop in Asakusa that has been around since the end of the Taisho era (1912-1926). They make traditional Japanese sweets by hand, and their most famous treat is the ‘DORAYAKI,’ ( a popular Japanese dessert made with sweet red bean paste sandwiched between two pancakes ) which has had the same delicious taste since they first opened. This shop is known as one of the 3 major dorayaki in Tokyo alongside Usagi-ya (うさぎや) and Sogetsu (草月). It’s a favorite among tourists visiting Tokyo, well-known for its popularity and frequent appearances in the media. They sell up to 3,000 dorayaki each day, but since many people buy dozens at a time, they often run out by noon. To make sure you get some, it’s recommended to visit the shop as early as possible. They offer two types of dorayaki fillings: black bean paste and white bean paste. The texture is large and fluffy, similar to a pancake. There are lines every day and you can’t buy it without waiting, making it an ideal gift or souvenir. Please note that the expiry date is only 3 days.
