Enjoy vibrant leaves and a magical night at Zuihoden, the grave of Date Masamune

Zuihoden is a gravesite for the historically prominent Date family. The structure built in 1637 is a national treasure. The current structure was rebuilt after it burned down during wartime, but its architecture showcases Japan’s history and culture. Every year at the end of November, you can see a collaboration of beautiful fall leaves and the mausoleum. There is a Loople Sendai bus stop here, so it’s easy to get to. From November 16th to the 30th, the hours are extended on weekends and holidays during this time. There will be light-up displays as well. If you have the time, enjoy the colorful leaves in the daytime and a magical view at night.

Take a fall walk through Jozenji-dori Avenue in the “forest city”

Jozenji-dori Avenue is a 700m path that goes through the center of Sendai. When you walk this path, you can tell why Sendai is called the “forest city”. The trees surround the path. On sunny days, you can feel the sunlight through the trees. The path also has sculptures created by artists like Emilio Greco. Enjoy a gallery walk in nature. Loople Sendai passes through Jozenji-dori Avenue, but don’t just pass through. Get of, gaze upon the turned leaves and indulge in the city of Sendai. In winter, there will be a light-up event, so check that out, too.
