Stroll around Asakusa with a traditional Edo atmosphere -3 historical spots
Asakusa flourished as downtown in the Edo period and still remains its old atmosphere and culture. You can feel the history of Asakusa through not only historical buildings but also festivals and meals. If you visit Asakusa in November, why not enjoy strolling around Asakusa while attending a popular festival?
This time, we’re going to introduce a festival around Hotel Gracery Asakusa and Hotel Tavinos Asakusa and our recommended spots.
“Asakusa Tori-no-Ichi” bustling with about 800 stalls
On 8th November and 20th, one of the highlights of autumn “Asakusa Tori-no-Ichi” is taken place at two adjoining venues: Otori Shrine and Chokokuji Temple. People believe that god and Buddha bring visitors good luck if they attend this festival. There are about 150 stalls selling ornately decorated Kumade and over 600 food stalls in and around the shrine and temple. Don’t forget to find Tori-no-Ichi’s specialities ‘Kirisansho’ and ‘Yatsugashira’ while enjoying a festive mood!

“Yakko” which has been loved by locals since the Edo period
If you feel the history of Asakusa with taste, “Yakko” serving unagi (eel) since the mid of the Edo period is our recommendation. A historical figure like Katsu Kaishu who Ryoma Sakamoto respected as his mentor also visited the restaurant frequently, and still now, many local people love here. Yakko’s eel dipped in their secret sauce is so fluffy.
