East TOKYO Festival of Light with The Theme of ‘Where Tradition Meets Innovation’; Witness The Collaboration of Shrine and Illumination

The illumination held every winter in Asakusa and Oshiage started on 10th November 2022, including Tokyo Skytree Town. It’s called ‘East TOKYO Festival of Light: Where Tradition Meets Innovation’, and Ushijima Shrine is the first time participating in the event this year. It has become a hot topic that the traditional shrine is decorated in various productions.

The annual winter illumination in Asakusa, Oshiage area, ‘East TOKYO Festival of Light: Where Tradition Meets Innovation’, is being implemented for the attractive dispatch project of Tokyo. The illumination of TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN, TOKYO mizumachiⓇ and Sumida River WalkⓇ based on a gold color is draped in glittering lights and color brightly in the whole area.

In addition, it has been a hot topic that a well-known local shrine founded in 860, ‘Ushijima Shrine’ is the first time participating this year. The shrine is famous for its three torii, also called Miwa-no-Torii, which is rare in Japan and has small torii gates on both sides. In this illumination, there are many highlights such as the colorful illumination of the Miwa-no-Torii and decorations using bamboo called Take-Akari’. You can feel the warmth because the illuminations use nature. It’s also good that you can take pictures with the illumination and Tokyo SKYTREEⓇ together.
