Are you interested in Carp Dishes? Experience Medical Fish’s Tastes in Koriyama City

Do you know “Koi (carp)” is a specialty of Koriyama City, located in the central part of Fukushima Prefecture? Koi (carp) is a popular food in Koriyama. That is why the local citizens have launched the “Don’t be coy with Koi in Koriyama Project” to preserve the history of the carp-eating culture and spread its deliciousness throughout the country. Therefore, there are currently about 90 carp restaurants in this city. Many restaurant owners have fallen in love with carp, so you should taste it. We picked up 3 restaurants by categories of dishes: Sashimi (row fish), Curry, and Hamburgers for visitors visiting a Koi restaurant for the first time.

Izakaya Yasubei emphasizes friendliness, serving dishes made with local food and locally brewed sake. You can eat the “Koi no Namero,” which is made from fresh carp. It is a simple seafood dish with miso and savory vegetables. The unique fatty flavor of carp, the accent of condiments, and the richness of miso make this dish addictive. In addition, you can enjoy the crunchy texture of the carp, and the more you chew, the more the delicious taste of the carp will spread in your mouth. Therefore, you should try it with a glass of the restaurant’s signature local sake.

PETIT GREEN is a nice European-style restaurant with a casual atmosphere. Its specialty is Koriyama Green Curry topped with “Quenelle” made from locally produced minced carp. Carp has a lot of small bones, but by mincing it, it becomes easier for everyone to eat. And the spinach, mung beans, onions, and carrots in the curry are all Koriyama brand vegetables. Of course, the rice is also brand-name rice from Koriyama. That firm bite of the carp quenelle, the richness of the vegetables, and the aroma of spices create perfect harmony in its béchamel sauce made by the owner, who has trained at a French restaurant.
