The sea surrounding Itsukushima Island with one of the world heritages ‘Itsukushima Shrine’ has been famous for conger eel fishing since ancient times, and a history book, written in the late 1700s, also says that conger eels caught near this island are very delicious. Grew up while eating small fish and crustaceans living in the Seto Inland Sea, these conger eels are fat. We recommend you visit “Anagomeshi Ueno (あなごめし うえの)” established in 1901 to savor them as Anagomeshi (conger eels rice bowl). It’s the origin of Anagomeshi: Ueno spreads their original sauce over conger eels, grill them over charcoal and put them on rice cooked with bony parts of conger eels and soy sauce. Although the main shop is located at Miyajimaguchi station in Itsukushima Island, you can try it even at Hiroshima Mitsukoshi.

Japanese Anchovy is fish with a strong odor, but it seems that the fish will has a firm texture just by washing them thoroughly with ice water and salt. When you order Sushi, 6 pieces of sliced Japanese Anchovy are put on rice. The sweet of fat and refreshing flavor fills your mouth. It’s also good to savor them with grated mild spicy ginger. As we mentioned at the beginning, the coastal area of the Seto Inland Sea is warm and dry area. Because it’s surrounded by mountains, it doesn’t suffered from strong winds and perfect for cultivating lemons. Thus, the volume of lemons produced here is the largest in Japan and account for about 60% of the total nationwide productions. These lemons feature the fact we can safely eat them with their skin because of not using preservatives or wax. “RIVA” makes their own version of Hiroshima’s local dishes including using this lemon. From among them, we recommend you order ‘Setouchi Lemon Hot Pot Course (瀬戸内レモン鍋コース)’ into that kelp soup and lots of lemon from Setoda-cho are put. Do shabu-shabu Setouchi’s branded pork ‘Momiji Pork’ in lemon hot pot with a refreshing flavor, dip it into lemon soy sauce and eat it. In summer, it’s possible to get cold without knowing due to the heat outside and the air conditioning inside. So, why not warm your body from inside with this hot pot?
