Fireworks light up the summer skies of Tokyo during the Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival on July 27th!

Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival is one of the biggest in Japan with 20,000 fireworks decorating the night sky. It’s a summer staple in Tokyo and this year will be the 47th time. Every year, over 1 million people come to see the beautiful and exciting fireworks display. Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival is known as one of the top two fireworks displays in Tokyo next to the Edogawa Fireworks Festival which will be held in late August. It is also the oldest fireworks display in Japan. It is said that the festival started in 1733 when a restaurant shot up fireworks to pray for those who died of starvation and to get rid of evil spirits.

The venue is split into two locations. Venue 1 is near the following train stations: Asakusa, Oshiage, Tokyo Skytree, and Hikifune. Venue 2 is near these stations: Asakusa, Kuramae, Ryogoku, and Asakusabashi. Of course, seeing the fireworks from the venue is exciting, but seeing them next to the Tokyo Skytree from afar is also a unique experience!
