“Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle)” is one of the major sightseeing spots in Sendai City. The castle was built in 1602 by Lord Date Masamune. Afterward, Masamune’s statue on horseback was also created as a symbol of this great castle. Meanwhile, it is also famous as a viewing spot overlooking the city of Sendai from its hillside location. Then, you can even see the Pacific Ocean ahead on sunny days. From the castle, visitors can enjoy the same perspective that Date Masamune would have seen as the leader aiming for the top position in Medieval Japan. In the winter season, its entire castle park (Aobayama Park) is covered with snow, creating a more fantastic sight.
