The surrounding area is filled with colorful trees, creating a landscape that looks like a painting. You can also go down to the riverbank and look up at the beautiful sight of the bright vermilion bridge reflecting the surrounding autumn leaves from below. Sapporo Lake is an artificial reservoir created during the construction of the Jozankei Dam. During the autumn leave season, the trees surrounding the lake burst into vibrant colors, offering a picturesque view. Located about 20 minutes by car from the Jozankei hot spring town, which serves as the starting point for Jozankei tours, Sapporo Lake is a popular stopover destination. Along with the previously mentioned Futami-tsuribashi Bridge, it’s an ideal spot for enjoying the autumn leaves. Additionally, there are 4 observation decks along the road that encircles the lake. The Sapporo Lake No. 1 Observation Deck, known for its breathtaking view, provides a panoramic vista of the lake and the autumn leaves. On the 3rd observation deck, there are stairs leading down to the lakeside, allowing you to get close to the water’s surface. This less crowded, hidden spot in the Jozankei area is worth visiting if you have the time. You can indulge in activities like canoeing, fishing, and lakeside strolls while breathing in the fresh air.
