Enjoy a Panoramic View of TOKYO SKYTREEⓇ at the Beautiful Neo-Renaissance Style Station Building, EKIMISE

EKIMISE is a large shopping complex in the same building as Tobu Asakusa Station, which features Neo-Renaissance styles such as arched wide windows and wall decoration. It’s a historical building restored based on the design when it first opened in 1931. There is a plaza on the rooftop where you can view TOKYO SKYTREEⓇ and Asakusa cityscape, so how about stopping by when you’re shopping?

EKIMISE originally opened in 1931 as the Asakusa Station building of Tobu Railway and underwent a reopening in 2012. This beautiful building is designed in the Renaissance style, featuring symbols like a clock tower, arched wide windows, and wall decorations. At its opening, it was the first station building in the Kanto region to include a department store. It was also one of the largest in Japan and featured a permanent amusement park on the roof. Over the years, EKIMISE faced the challenges of repair work, with some sections lacking wall decoration. However, restoration efforts were guided by old pictures, and after more than 80 years, EKIMISE has been returned to its original design.

Many people make use of this charming and historic building, which serves as both a station and a department store. While you can certainly enjoy shopping and dining here, we highly recommend a visit to the rooftop plaza, known as ‘Asakusa Hare Terrace.’ From there, you can take in breathtaking views of the TOKYO SKYTREEⓇ and the picturesque Asakusa cityscape while relaxing on comfortable benches. In addition, the rooftop plaza stays open until 8:00 PM, allowing you to appreciate the illuminated beauty of TOKYO SKYTREEⓇ. It’s a must-visit spot where you can enjoy the city of Asakusa as it changes from day to evening to night.
