What is the Moon Festival? Enjoy local culture if you come to Taipei in the fall!
The Moon Festival is an important seasonal event in China and Taiwan. In Taiwan, it is a holiday to honor the full moon and it is one of the three major seasonal holidays in the country. In Japan, there is a term for the “mid-autumn full moon”, and the day of this full moon is called Otsukimi (お月見). People eat special mochi balls (月見団子) and watch the moon. In Taiwan, however, it is a very big event and a national holiday. It’s normal for people to return to their hometowns and spend time with family. The date is on the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar calendar, so it changes every year. This year it is on September 17th, 2024 (Tuesday). If you visit Taiwan in fall, be sure to enjoy the local ways to celebrate. You can buy mooncakes that are sold during this season or visit Taipei 101 for special events. The cities are decorated, and you can enjoy the special atmosphere. Hotel Gracery Taipei is located in central Taipei, so it’s perfect for your vacation in Taiwan.

Enjoy mooncakes from popular bakeries and dessert shops in Taiwan
Mooncakes are special sweets that are sold during the Moon Festival season. In Taiwan, it is customary to gift mooncakes to people in your life to show gratitude. During this season, bakeries and dessert shops start selling their mooncakes. Gift boxes are always extremely popular. Tourists are able to buy them, too, so you can compare mooncakes from different shops. The mooncake in the picture is from a bakery in Taipei called YOSHI BAKERY. It’s a traditional mooncake filled with a paste of salted egg yolk and red bean. The mooncakes at this shop are in high demand, so it may be difficult to get your hands on them. But, there are many other stores with their own original mooncakes, so be sure to check them out.
