【Breathtaking】Only here: Zojoji Temple with ties to Ieyasu Tokugawa x Tokyo Tower!

Zojoji Temple in Minato Ward, Tokyo has ties to the famous shogun family of the Edo period, the Tokugawas. Ieyasu Tokugawa’s hidden Buddha is kept there. Hidden Buddhas are hidden from public view except for during special ceremonies. This temple boasts 600 years of history and because of its ties to shoguns, it is known for good luck in competitions. There are several buildings and artifacts that are important to Japan’s history here.

Zojoji is not only historically significant, but also a hot spot for tourists due to its location and exterior! The Tokyo Tower stands behind the main gate and main temple; it’s a view you can only see here. Also, in December 2024, the temple came into the spotlight because it implemented a system that allowed visitors to make offerings via electronic payment. You can go take a picture of the temple with the Tokyo Tower or you can try making an offering electronically. It’s a great place to experience the blending of old and new.
