Every year in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, the Tendo Hina Matsuri Festival is held. All over the city, you can see Hina Ningyo dolls. Tendo Shiritsu Kyuhigashimura Yamagunyakushoshiryokan exhibits rare Hina Ningyo dolls that have been passed down through generations. From Hina Ningyo dolls from the Edo period (1603-1868) to artwork to dolls made with clay, you can see all kinds of Hina Ningyo dolls. Here, you can feel the culture and techniques of the time. In addition, you’ll see rare, historical Hina Ningyo dolls in bath houses and other facilities. There will also be stamp rallies and photo contests. The Tendo Hina Matsuri Festival is a tradition that has been passed down and celebrated by many generations. These Hina Ningyo dolls have been treasured and protected through the ages. The Dan-dan Long Na Hina Matsuri Festival is held every year in Murayama City, Yamagata Prefecture. As the name suggests, there is a long Hina Ningyo doll display with 6000 Hina Ningyo dolls. The dolls are donated from all over the country, and you get to see the history, unique faces, and colorful outfits. In addition, there are Hina Ningyo dolls that were handmade by local preschoolers. It’s a blend between now and then that will make you feel warm inside. Seeing the vast expanse of Hina Ningyo dolls feels like the dolls themselves are celebrating the coming of spring. Every April in Yachi, Yamagata Prefecture, a historically significant Girls’ Day festival is held. Long ago, the Yachi region was booming with safflower trade and culture from Kyoto. Beautiful Hina Ningyo dolls were passed down to different families. During the Girls’ Day festival season, rare Hina Ningyo dolls can be seen all around town. At the Kahokucho Benihana Museum, there is a special exhibit for Hina Ningyo dolls, and you get to see the rich culture of these dolls up close. In addition, the Hina Market will be held. You’ll find Hina Ningyo dolls, decorations, special local items, and other things here. It’ll feel like you stepped back in time. The Yachi Hina Festival has been celebrated for over 500 years.
