Kifune, Kyoto. Discover something out of the ordinary by the river in Japan.
Kifune is located by the Kamogawa River, and it’s about a 30-minute train ride from the central part of Kyoto. You can enjoy the changing of the seasons here. From May to September, there is a special “gourmet stage”. That stage is Kawadoko in Kifune.

“Kawadoko” is a place on the river where you can enjoy a meal. It’s a summer staple in Kyoto. Among the different “kawadoko” in Japan, the one in Kifune is unique because the river runs right below you. Anyone who visits will feel like they walked into a magical world. The rustling trees, the babbling river, the refreshing breeze. Find a moment of peace in nature’s air conditioning.

Kibunesou is a well-established Japanese inn that boasts 90 years of history. Their summer special kaiseki course is full of local vegetables and seasonal ingredients. It’s a feast for the eyes and the mouth. In the daytime, see the sparkling river. At night, see the water illuminated by lights. Both are so beautiful, you’ll want to share it on your social media. The beautiful meals and location are sure to be the highlight of your trip.
Nearby, there is also the Kifune Shrine. It’s the perfect spot to take a walk after your meal. It’s known for being good luck for relationships and love. It’s quite popular with foreign tourists as well. If you’re lucky, you might see some local couples in traditional Japanese outfits called Yukata. Come by and experience the local culture in a unique way.
Kyoto is a well-known tourist destination. But, in Kifune, you can see a different side of Kyoto – a Kyoto that is one with nature. It’s a great spot for people who want to be active and for people who want to relax, too. This summer, come and experience something special at a restaurant on the water.
