From Italian dishes to Japanese food. 3 recommended eateries with good cost performance in ‘Urayoko’
Do you know that the whole area of Takashima, Hiranuma and Tobe area near the east exit of Yokohama Station is called ‘Ura-Yokohama (裏横浜, Urayoko for short)’? It’s in the spotlight because a wide variety of unique eateries located here work on revitalization projects together in order to make this area stylish like Ura-Harajuku and Daikanyama. This time, we’re going to introduce 3 recommended eateries from among them: a restaurant whose owner named this area Urahara, a Japanese tavern allowing customers to enjoy plenty of fresh seafood for reasonable prices and a Soba restaurant with about 100 years of history.
Rapaciously devour Italian dishes! “Bistro Fresh” perfect to kitty party and solo-dinner
The Italian restaurant “Bistro Fresh (ビストロフレッシュ)” is run by an owner who named this area ‘Urayoko’ in a magazine interview. Its exterior with an intimate and little retro atmosphere and interior inspired by Mykonos island in the Aegean Sea in Greece will make you feel as if you’re in Ghibli’s world. We recommend you visit this restaurant when you want to enjoy solo-dinner while having a conversation with friendly staff at a counter seat as well as kitty party and dating. They offer many luxurious dishes such as a salad with plenty of seasonal vegetables from Yokohama and spaghetti using whole Omar shrimp or swimming crab.

All of noodles, dipping sauce and vessels are original! The Soba restaurant “Hiranuma Tanakaya” having been loved for over 100 years
Founded in 1920, an old-established soba restaurant”Hiranuma Tanakaya (平沼 田中屋)” is so popular that there are always lines. They cook their dishes after getting customers’ orders, thinking ‘we want customers to eat our original Soba or Udon while they are in the best condition.’ From among over 50 kinds of dishes, we particularly recommend you try to eat ‘Kizami Kamoseiro (きざみ鴨せいろ).’ The duck meat in the dipping sauce is minced so that you can fully feel the flavor of duck fat and Umami. Moreover, a vessel which the sauce is poured into is their custom-made one full of their passion. It keeps the temperature of the sauce until you finish eating up and has a structure to make a thick layer of duck oil on the top. For those who want to have dishes unique to Urayoko, ‘Urayoko Curry Udon (裏横浜カレーうどん)’ is perfect. You will become addicted if you taste its curry soup containing their original roux, which is made curry powder, wheat flour and several kinds of spices, and Soba soup with a rich flavor of the broth.
