Savor the perfect harmony of fish stock and chicken stock in a bowl of Shoyu Ramen at “Mendokoro Honda Akihabara”
In April 2020, the well-known Ramen restaurant “Mendokoro Honda” (麺処 ほん田) in Higashijujo, a housing area located in the north part of Tokyo, moved and opened a new restaurant under the train rail in Akihabara with renewing the menu from the scratch. Though all items are priced as high as 1000 yen or more, the fact that every item is worth the price makes a long queue of customers every day. The recommended and signature menu is ‘Tokusei Shoyu’ (特製醤油, special soy-sauce flavor Ramen). The soy sauce soup, which is made from chicken and seafood flavors such as clams, is entwined with wheat-scented noodles to create perfect harmony. The chicken and pork Char-Siu on top have a savory flavor without making you feel greasy taste. Since only the limited menu is offered every Wednesday, refer to its official Twitter account for details in advance.

A Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant “Motenashi Kuroki” featuring smooth and refreshing soup
“Motenashi Kuroki” (饗 くろ喜 or くろ㐂) is a Ramen restaurant opened in 2011 in the theme of ‘superior and authentic’ by the owner, Mr. Kuroki, who learned the foundation of Japanese cuisine at a restaurant in Akasaka and expanded the range of skills and ideas by practicing Italian cuisine. It is a well-known story among ramen enthusiasts that it’d been selected as a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant since 2017 for the second consecutive year and has now declined the offer to be featured. The most popular item here is ‘Shio Soba’ (塩そば, salt flavor Ramen). The soup, which is based on Jidori chicken and kelp, is full of a rich aroma and you will definitely want to drink up to the last drop. Since you get to choose the type of noodles, hand-kneaded noodles (手揉み麺, temomi-men) or thin noodles (細麺, hosomen), don’t forget to make your choice when ordering. When you have a bigger appetite, why not order ‘Tokusei Shumai’ (特製焼売, special port dumpling) allowing you to enjoy the juicy gravy even without any sauce to go with?

“Aoshima Shokudo Akihabara” where you can enjoy Ginger Shoyu Ramen of a long-establishment eatery in Niigata’s Nagaoka
“Aoshima Shokudo Akihabara” (青島食堂 秋葉原店), the Tokyo outlet of a long establishment Ramen restaurant in Nagaoka, serves ‘Nagaoka Ginger Shoyu Ramen’ (長岡生姜醤油ラーメン), known as one of the 5 great Ramens of Niigata. The only one menu is ‘Aoshima Ramen’ (青島ラーメン). It features a savory soy sauce soup based on pork and chicken bones with ginger flavor. The crispy noodles go perfectly with the flavorful soup. The Char-Siu cut in pieces is truly juicy in the fat meat part. Since various toppings such as spinach and green onions with every additional 50 yen is available, arrange your Ramen to your liking. As there are only 9 seats, be prepared to wait for a while in a long queue. Besides, as soon as the soup is sold out, the store will close.
