“Hibiya Park” is Japan’s First Modern, Western-Style Public Park Built Through Urban Planning

Surrounded by nature while in the center of Tokyo, “Hibiya Park” (日比谷公園) where you can enjoy the seasonal flowers. The park is familiar to many people as a relaxing place for office workers on weekdays, and an ‘urban oasis’ rich in nature on weekends. Various events are also being held there, so it has been the famous spots especially Saturday and Sunday.

Current the Hibiya Park was home to daimyo residence through the end of the Edo Period(1603-1868). During the Meiji Period(1868-1912), it was converted to a military training ground. After a long history, the park was opened to public in 1903 as ‘Japan’s first Western-style park’. Various kinds of flowers are in full bloom in the park, they make visitors feel relaxed. You can enjoy seasonal flowers such as hydrangea and gardenia in Summer, and Fragrant olives and Plum from Autumn to Winter.

大噴水(Large Fountain)

The biggest symbol of Hibiya Park is the ‘Large Fountain’, in which the diameter of the pond is 30 meters. The fountain is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day and can be enjoyed every 28 minutes. The height of the fountain is as high as 12 meters, you can see a dynamic performance with splashing water.

In addition, there are a lot of nice places, including the pond where you can enjoy the seasonal scenery, open space and a Western-style flowerbed. It’s also a perfect place for taking a break, picnic and walk while seeing nature. Why not visit the wide and beautiful park, and spend a relaxing time?
