“Daihonzan Zojoji Temple” is located in the heart of Shiba Park which is adjacent to Tokyo Tower, and around 1 million visitors a year. This temple has a lot of cultural properties such as a seated statue of Amida Nyorai, a designated cultural property of Tokyo as well as Sangedatsumon, a nationally designated cultural property, and is also known for the graveyard of 6 Tokugawa generals.

As mentioned earlier, Zojoji Temple is not only known for its history but also for its beautiful cherry blossom scenery during the spring season. The scenery of cherry blossoms in full bloom with Tokyo Tower and the main hall in the background has been widely shared through media. However, many people are not aware of the ‘North area’, which offers a nostalgic atmosphere. The area is lined with 1,300 Jizo statues called Kosodate Shofuku Jizo (子育て招福地蔵, Child-rearing Shofuku Jizo), named after Nishimuki Sei Kanzeon Bosatsu (西向聖観世音菩薩, facing west Sei Kanzeon Bodhisattva), who is believed to be the safe delivery of children. From late March to early April every year, the cherry blossom trees lined up behind them are adorned with pale pink petals, creating a beautiful contrast with the bright red hats worn by the statues and colorful windmills and making it a picturesque spot for taking photos. The sight of the warm spring breeze swaying the cherry blossoms and the windmill creates a mystical atmosphere. It’s also recommended to enjoy the wind blowing the petals away from the peak season.
