Sapporo White Illumination lights up the city of Sapporo in winter. In 2024, the event celebrates its 44th anniversary. Odori Park is the main area for the event but it spreads out to several locations. From up high in Sapporo TV Tower, you see all of Sapporo sparkle. It’s a magical sight. Some of the lights are self-generated or run on biodiesel. The event is easy on the environment as well. The Christmas market in the following section is held in the same time period, so buy a warm drink and enjoy the lights.

2024 Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo is all about Christmas spirit

This Christmas market is held at the same time as the Sapporo White Illumination. Munich, Germany is the sister city to Sapporo, Japan. This is why Christmas markets started in Sapporo. There will be hot wine, sausages, German Christmas delicacies, and all kinds of Christmas items. Unlike in Europe, many Japanese households don’t have space for Christmas trees, but there will be ornaments and other knick knacks. Find your favorite and get in the Christmas spirit.
