Experience Japanese matcha at Kaminari Issa in Asakusa, Tokyo!
People around the world are discovering “matcha”. It has been well-known for a while now, but recently, demand has skyrocketed. Buyers from outside of Japan are ordering directly from established tea shops in Japan. Among those, Kaminari Issa is popular in Asakusa, Tokyo for their matcha drinks and desserts. Many matcha fans come by here every day.

Kaminari Issa is a matcha specialty store that has 6 stores in Asakusa, and they sell desserts online as well. Their concept is: “good matcha isn’t bitter.” With this motto in mind, they serve gelato, Warabi-mochi (わらびもち, special type of Japanese mochi), cream puffs, lattes, and beer that uses rich matcha. At the store that hosts “matcha brewing”, you can easily brew your own matcha up to 6 times a day. If you reserve a spot by 5:00PM the day before, you can come in and enjoy some matcha you brewed yourself. The experience comes with a lesson, so you can gain a deeper knowledge of matcha. Be sure to stop by if you’re a matcha lover.
