This modern cafe is near Kaminarimon on a small street. The woodsy interior is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese room, and it’s the perfect atmosphere for a kimono. There are specialty coffees, matcha, Hojicha (roasted green tea) lattes, and homemade pastries. Natural light pours in gently beyond the counter and time seems to slow in this space. Even though it is located in the bustling town of Asakusa, it’s a place of relaxation. People on Japanese social media say it is the most relaxing cafe in Asakusa. The cute drinks and mugware are popular for pictures as well. Come by after your walk and take a break at this cafe.

A new spot that blends traditional Japan with entertainment — Asakusa Yokocho

“Yokocho” means “alley” in Japan and is often associated with shops lining it. Asakusa Yokocho is a new type of yokocho that was founded in 2022. There are retro signs, lanterns, viral foods, and live performances. It brings back the vibrant atmosphere of old Japan with a modern twist. The alley is lined with Kushiyaki (fried skewers), sushi, Korean food, dessert, and various other restaurants. For Japanese people, it may evoke a sense of nostalgia, but it is also excitingly new. If you wear your Yukata (traditional Japanese summer wear) or kimono here, you can take pictures with the lanterns like you took a step back in time. At night, the lanterns are lit and the vibe is different from the daytime. On weekends, there is live music and other performances to make memories you’ll never forget.

Taiyaki is a Japanese dessert shaped like a fish and most commonly filled with red bean. In Tokyo, one of the most famous spots to get one is Naniwaya in Asakusa. The traditional flavors have been delicately passed down through generations, and it is an inviting place that is easy for tourists to visit. The outer bread is aromatic and super thin, and it is filled masterfully with red bean from Hokkaido. One bite and you can experience the airy crunch and sweetness of the red bean. The storefront is decorated with lanterns, so wear a kimono and take a picture like you’re in an old movie from Japan. You can sit and eat on the bench, or you can take a little walk around. It’s the perfect snack to finish your walk for the day.
