Step Into a Ghibli World in Shiodome, Tokyo: NTV Big Clock designed by Hayao Miyazaki

Just a short walk from Shimbashi and Ginza stations lies Shiodome Siosite, an area where Tokyo’s history and modern cityscape come together. Here you’ll find the restored Old Shimbashi Station, the birthplace of Japan’s railway; the lively Shiodome City Center filled with dining options from casual bites to gourmet meals; and the charming Italian Park and Italian Town, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
But the true highlight is the massive NTV Big Clock on the wall of Nippon Television’s headquarters. This enormous mechanical clock—12 meters tall and 18 meters wide—was designed by none other than Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary director of Studio Ghibli. Built from over 1,200 copper plates, its whimsical design looks as if it has stepped straight out of a Ghibli film.
At set times during the day, the clock comes alive. Figures begin to move in sync with enchanting music, creating a magical scene that feels like a mini-story unfolding before your eyes. Both children and adults alike will find themselves captivated.
With its convenient location, it’s easy to stop by between shopping or dining in Shiodome. If you’re exploring the area, don’t miss the chance to experience a touch of Ghibli magic in the heart of Tokyo at the NTV Big Clock.
