Within a walking distance from Fukui Station. 3 recommended souvenir shops allowing you to enjoy shopping and experience

田園風景の中を走る越前鐵道(Echizen Railway running in pastoral landscape)

Fukui prefecture thoroughly protects spring water designated as one of Japan’s 100 great water, a source of the clear stream where national natural treasures live and so on. Since the clean water flows through here, good quality agricultural products grow. Therefore, it has lots of specialty products that are nationally famous, such as Koshihikari (rice) and Etsu no Ruby (tomato) and Josho taro. Why not get souvenirs made from Fukui’s specialty products like that while making memories through experiences including workshops or tasting etc?

This time, we’re going to introduce 3 shops allowing you to enjoy both shopping and experience which we want to recommend when you look for souvenirs around Fukui Station.

Get your handmade miso to make and raise at “Sannana Miso”

“Sannana Miso” was opened by the owner who fascinated with a Japanese fermentation culture in 2017. Apparently, this name comes from that the temperature is 37 (3: san, 7: nana) degrees during making koji. Their fermented foods such as miso and koji, amazake and salted koji are handmade one by one with love and sincerity. In particular, miso made only from Enrei soybeans and rice koji from Fukui prefecture and Akaho no Tenshio (salt) is the exquisite product with a sweet but refreshing taste. In addition to shopping, it might be a good idea to experience making amazake (available throughout the year) or miso using freshly steamed soybeans from Ikedamachi (available from October to June). After letting miso rest until becoming your favorite aging condition, you can enjoy it for a long time in various ways, such as dipping raw vegetables into it and using it for cooking.

“Echizen Soba Club” where professionals tell you easy way and authentic one of making soba

“Echizen Soba Club” is a place where you can experience making Nihachi Soba (mixing 20% flour and 80% Fukui’s buckwheat flour). They lend everything needed for making soba including aprons and tools for free, so you can feel free to visit here without having nothing just by booking. We also recommend here for family travel because aprons for children are available. Besides, it’s one of the best charms that you can learn how to make soba with home tools such as bowls and a cling wrap tube as well as an authentic way. By the way, they offer soba made with buckwheat flour only, called Juwari Soba, during lunchtime. You’re sure to be addicted to the gentle and rich flavor created by their original additive-free soup and soba.
