Lip-smacking dishes using carefully selected ingredients from Hokkaido! 3 recommended eateries within 2 mins walking distance from Susukino Sta.

夜のすすきのの街並み(Night Scenery of Susukino)

“Susukino” is the largest entertainment district in the north of Japan, where neon signs of Nikka Highball, Sapporo Breweries and so on are illuminated. It’s just 2 stations away from Sapporo Station on the Namboku line. Here, there is a great variety of eateries from old-established one offering Hokkaido’s local dishes to photogenic cafes and bars. Loads of eateries must surround you with their mouth-watering smell.

This time, we’re going to introduce 3 recommended eateries that offer exquisite dishes using Hokkaido’s high-quality ingredients from among ones within 2 minutes walking distance from Susukino Station.

The founder is a former fisherman! “Umi Hachikyo Honten” which is the origin of Tsukkomeshi

海味 はちきょう 本店 (すすきの(市営)/居酒屋)

Decorated with lights for luring fish and glass fishing floats, colorful Tairyo-bata (traditional Japanese fishermen’s flags to indicate a successful day of fishing) and so on, “Umi Hachikyo Honten (海味 はきちょう 本店)” is a popular Japanese seafood tavern with a vibrant ambiance like Banya where fishermen used to gather and rest. They carefully selected seafood caught at fishing ports in Hokkaido including Rausu where the founder had been a fisherman for over 10 years and offer highly tasty dishes. We recommend you try to eat ‘Tsukkomeshi’ which was born here. When you order it, all of the staff gather near your table and pile salmon roe on rice until they are about to overflow while calling out ‘Oisa!’ Your eyes and stomach are sure to dance just by eating eggs filled with rich umami.

The Japanese restaurant “Oga” allowing you to enjoy Hokkaido’s local dishes and phantom ingredients

郷土料理 おが (すすきの(市営)/海鮮)

“Oga (おが)” is a Japanese restaurant that offers various local dishes of Hokkaido such as Kirikoshi Nabe and Zangi. All vegetables, meats and seafood are directly sent from production areas, and especially, seafood is swimming comfortably in the fish tank until just before their cooked. It’s also attractive that you can experience rare tastes of phantom ingredients such as Budoebi (Pandalopsis coccinata), Keiji salmon ‘Ruibe’ and Matsukawa Karei (flounder). In addition, don’t forget to order Oga’s famous menu ‘Kinki no Shabushabu,’ whose main ingredient is luxury fish ‘Kinki (channel rockfish)’ caught by the method of pole-and-line fishing in Abashiri. Let’s dip and wave it around in their original broth with chopsticks, add bony parts of Kinki and vegetables to make Kinki hot pot and put rice to enjoy porridge!

The specialty restaurant of Genghis Khan “Itadakimasu” serving rare Suffolk sheep grown at their own farm for reasonable prices

いただきます。 (すすきの(市電)/ジンギスカン)

As you know, Genghis Khan is one of Hokkaido’s local foods. There are many specialty restaurants of it all over Hokkaido, but “Itadakimasu (いただきます)” is the only one using meats of sheep from Hokkaido. It seems that its owner researched on sheep for 15 years and opened this restaurant 7 years after his starting to raise ‘Suffolk sheep’. Meats of Suffolk sheep are a rare variety with low production. However, they raise them at their own farm and process and age meats at the factory which is adjoined to their restaurant, so you can enjoy them for reasonable prices. For the high-quality meats are tender and less smelly, just sprinkling some salt and pepper is sufficient. It might also be a good idea to compare the tastes of various parts such as loin, liver, boneless short rib.
