Facing on Tokyo Bay, Ariake and Odaiba area has lots of hands-on learning facilities such as National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation and Museum of Maritime Science. From among them, this time, we focused on little-known but good places where we can have a time to learn leisurely with children. We’re going to introduce 3 highly entertaining facilities allowing you to discover new attractions of ‘water’ and ‘science and mathematics’ that are closely related to our lives.
All of the 3 facilities are within 15 minutes’ walk from Ariake Station.
“Tokyo Water Science Museum” that teaches you the hidden charm of water and how it gets to your house via videos and experiments
Do you know how water that runs when turning the faucet on reach our house? “Tokyo Water Science Museum” tells us the mystery and importance of water from the perspective of science through exhibits and videos, experimental shows, activities, etc located in the five zones. In particular, ‘Aqua Trip’ where you can see videos projected on four large screens by the latest machine. Born in the forest and used at various houses as drinking water, goes out to the sea and becomes rainy. You can experience such a ‘water trip’ while lying on a sofa. After learning a lot about water, let’s take part in a tour to explore Ariake water station located underground! Where does water leaving away from your house head to? Tokyo Sewerage Museum “Rainbow” allowing you to learn the mechanism of the sewer and experience work
Playing a role in cleaning water we use and returning it to rivers and seas, the sewer is usually hidden in the ground. At Tokyo Sewerage Museum “Rainbow” in Ariake Water Reclamation Center, you can learn not only the mechanism of the sewer but also the thoughts and efforts of the people concerned by seeing and feeling. There are many unique contents such as ‘Earth-kun’s House’ showing how water flows in a house, a manhole enabling you to look inside and the operating Water Reclamation Center tour. On weekends and holidays only, they also hold events: elementary and junior high school students can experience the work related to sewerage. By the way, it is a 7-minute walk from Tokyo Water Science Museum.

“RiSuPia” where you can easily learn the principles and laws of science and mathematics just like playing a game
Many principles and laws of science and mathematics are closely connected to what we use or see everyday. Why don’t you visit “RiSuPia” in the Panasonic Center Tokyo to get in touch with fascinations of science and mathematics like that? It consists of two floors with different characteristics. One is “Quest Floor” on the 2nd floor. While touching over 10 exhibits with some principles, you can learn what they are and where they are used in daily life. The other is “Discovery Floor” on the 3rd floor. Go around the floor with ‘Discovery Scope’ that explains the exhibits. You can come across exhibits like a game, such as hockey using numbers and coloring with three primary colors of light, and 3D theater introducing the world of numbers and shapes. Don’t forget to review what you learn at the day on PC by using a card issued before leaving the facility.
