Let’s Enjoy Various Genres of Arts at the “Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art” with Classic, Modern and Functional Design

‟Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art” lies within Okazaki Park in Sakyo-Ku, Kyoto City. The architecture is the oldest public art museum in Japan and has attracted many visitors as Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art after World WarⅡ. The museum reopened in May 2020 as “Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art” after a three-year large-scale renovation.

The design of architecture, commonly known as ‘Imperial Crown Style’ which is a blend of Japanese and Western-style roofs. Modern features were added to the historical design of the main building, the architecture has become a mixed one with tradition and modernity.

There is a gently sloping open space ‘KYOCERA Square’ in front of the main building entrance, symbolic glass entrance called ‘Glass Ribbon’ was newly established ahead.

The Central Hall is a famous photo spot, which is updated as the hub for the entire facility, connecting the exhibition room and the Japanese garden. The hall is a popular area where you can take nostalgic photos including a grand staircase, a large door through the Japanese garden and the stained glass on the 2nd-floor ceiling.

In the North-South Wing, the floor allows you to appreciate some masterpieces and public exhibitions. In the collection room on the first floor of South Wing, you can enjoy the permanent exhibition of Kyoto artworks since modern times.

In addition, ‘Higashiyama Cube’ is one of the must-see spaces with this renewal, which displayed the current art scene, including animation, comics, and design. There is a wooden deck rooftop garden on the roof of the same space, the beautiful view of Higashiyama will take your breath away.
