The Historical Japanese Palace-Style Sento “Akebono-Yu” Colored by Full-Bloom Wisteria
Founded in 1949, “Akebono-Yu (曙湯)” is a Sento(public bath) with an eye-catching dignified appearance. The public bath is a palace-style building like shrines and temples. It is also known for its beautiful wisteria trellis covering the Karahafu(Chinese cusped gable) on the front roof.

From late April to early May, the best season for viewing wisteria, this Sento becomes a famous photo spot. We recommend that you visit there for a good timing because wisteria only blooms for a short time.
In addition, 2 tiled paintings of peacock and peony are decorated on the wall in front of the reception. Looking up in the dressing room, you can find a coffered ceiling on which pictures of Japanese patterns are drawn. Through the retro design, you might feel the history of Akebono-Yu.
The public bath is like a cultural heritage of the whole building, but the facilities and the interior have been modern style since its renovation in 2010. The painting wall in the bathroom is a POP design with the theme of Asakusa and Sumida River. It has what symbolizes Asakusa such as Kaminarimon Gate and TOKYO SKYTREE®.
Moreover, the number of baths increased to 6 types after its renovation. Especially, the lukewarm Jacuzzi bath is semi-open-air, so you can spend a relaxing time.
After getting out of the bath, why not refresh yourself while feeling a present breeze at the Engawa (Japanese balcony)? There are a lot of restaurants around here, so it’s a good idea to walk and eat Asakusa food.
