Umekoji Park, Suzaku-no-Niwa – A Magical Autumn Experience with Illuminations and Reflecting Leaves on the Water

Umekoji Park was opened in 1995. In this park, you can experience seasonal scenery, and beautiful autumn leaves are coming soon. Umekoji Park is a large park covering approximately 13.7 hectares despite being located in the heart of Kyoto. There are spacious ‘Grass Plaza’, ‘Kawara Riverside Playground’ and biotope, ‘Inochi-no-Mori garden’ (forest of life) which has restored the natural ecosystem. Among them, Suzaku-no-Niwa (朱雀の庭) which was created with the best of Kyoto’s gardening techniques and techniques is a must-visit garden. It’s a Chisen-Kaiyu-Shiki Garden (池泉回遊式庭, strolling garden with a pond), and in the center of the garden is a pond called a water mirror, which is filled with 1cm of water on top of a black granite stone. A highly recommendation in this park is to visit the autumn season when maple and pine turn into yellow and red color. The best season is the middle of November to early December.
