“Kanshundo” is one of the representing Kyoto, which was founded in 1865. Although this store sells dry sweets Wasanbon, and also Daibutsu (Buddha) rice cakes which are made using traditional methods, the eye-catching one is the traditional Japanese sweet called Jo-namagashi (上生菓子). Craftsman beautifully shapes the plants that represent the four seasons. The sweets made delicately one by one look too good to eat. It makes you want to brew tea carefully and taste it while feeling the season.

You have a chance to make “seasonal Japanese sweets” in the east store. The class is held every day, and you make 3 types of Jo-namagashi and 1 dry sweet while learning with craftsmen in 1 hour. Jo-namagashi has different themes for each season, such as cherry blossoms in spring and morning glories in summer, so you can enjoy them every time you visit. Of course, the beautiful sweets that are lined up in the store are also nice but the ones made by hand are even more lovely. You can take them all, so it’s also good for souvenirs. How about trying the little special experience that puts the season into one sweet?
