御殿山庭園(Gotenyama Garden)

Many people come and go through for business and sightseeing, in Shinagawa, Tokyo Prefecture. “Gotenyama Garden” has a spacious site of about 6,600㎡ and it’s a relaxing place for people. The origin of name come from the shogun’s House, ‘Shinagawa Goden’ at the time which was built on this hill in the Edo era in 1636. After that, cherry blossoms are planted in the Gotenyama Garden, it was known for cherry blossom viewing among the Edo people. In addition, clam digging was possible on the beach, so the area was crowded with a lot of people. However, when Perry arrived, the scenery changed because earth and sand were carried out from Gotenyama to build Daiba.

This garden was not exactly the same landscape compared to that time, but it’s still a viewing spot that blooms cherry blossoms in the spring. Furthermore, white dandelion which is rare in eastern Japan blooms and you can also look at the hydrangeas in early summer. Also, the mid of November to early December will be the best time to see autumn leaves every year. Maples and ginkgo that turn red and yellow make us happy. There is a powerful waterfall using height difference and tea room ‘Ujian’ designed by Arata Isozaki, so please check them when you visit. You can spend a relaxing time while being healed by the sound of flowing water.
