Check out the juicy hamburg steak at Jutei!

Jutei (重亭) was founded in 1946 and still maintains that old-school charm. Famous authors and popular comedians love this place, and there is a line almost every day. They have hamburg steak, omurice (rice wrapped in an omelet), steak, among other things. Their most popular dish is the hamburg steak. The outside has a little crisp and the inside is fluffy. When you stick your knife in, the juices flow out and you’ll be hungry. They don’t put a lot of salt or spices, so you can really taste and enjoy the meat. The base to their secret sauce is from when they first opened. Be sure to come hungry.

Ippoutei is a Japanese-style Chinese restaurant. They have familiar favorites like karaage (fried chicken) and pork tempura in this casual eatery. Their most famous dish is their original shumai (シュウマイ, type of dumpling) wrapped in egg. If you mention shumai in Osaka, this place is sure to come up. It feels fluffy on your tongue and the texture of the onion pairs well with the plump meat filling. You won’t be able to stop eating it. They also have a lot of set menu items, so it’s perfect for an easy, delicious lunch.

The first western food restaurant in Osaka: Jiyuken. Try out the famous curry that is now an Osaka staple

自由軒(Jiyuken)

This restaurant was built in 1910 and the first western food restaurant in Osaka. It’s been loved for over 100 years. One dish that hasn’t changed since its start is the “Famous Curry” (名物カレー). The curry here is a staple in Osaka. The curry sauce and the rice comes out mixed, so it looks different from your traditional curry and rice. If you mix in the raw egg topping, it becomes creamier and richer. You can even add Worcestershire sauce which is the Jiyuken way. The curry sauce is simple with only onion and beef inside. It also only contains natural ingredients. People of all ages and walks of life can come in and enjoy the food here. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area.
