The katsu overflowing from the bowl! Fukui’s local delicacy, Sauce Katusu-don, at its birthplace: Europe-ken Headquarters
Sauce Katsu-don is a local delicacy of Fukui Prefecture. It is fried tonkatsu pork soaked in a special sauce over rice. Europe-ken is said to be the birthplace of the dish. Originally, the founder had gone to Germany and tried to create a dish using Worcestershire sauce that Japanese people would like. Europe-ken remains popular to this day. Their Katsu-don toppings overflow from the bowl. The fried meat is soaked in sauce but it’s not overpowering and pairs perfectly with the rice. Don’t forget to stop by when you visit Fukui.
